Checkpoint attack leaves 5 security men dead

PESHAWAR Two policemen and three Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel were killed while another cop got injured when militants attacked Speen Qabar checkpoint, some 20 kilometres southwest of the provincial capital, on Wednesday. It was not possible to tell about the exact number of militants involved in the attack on the check-post as they were having advantage of the darkness of the night, SSP (Coordination) Sher Akbar Khan told TheNation. Investigations are underway and it is yet to be confirmed whether the attackers were Taliban or activists of Lashkar-e-Islam, he added. The sources informed that the attackers were armed with rockets and petrol bombs. Both deceased policemen, Mumtaz Ali and Niaz Hussain, were ex-servicemen and had recently joined the police force. The other dead are Rehman Ali, Ghulam Ali and Ali Ayaz of FC.
