Bar to observe Black Day against Davis release

LAHORE The city lawyers on Thursday held a strong protest against the release of Raymond Davis while Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) has announced to observe Black Day on Friday (today) to carry their protest a step ahead. Punjab Bar Council gave courts boycott call to the lawyers for Thursday while slammed the release of killers of two citizens, Raymond Davis and four hours detention of Asad Manzoor Butt, the counsel for the victim family. LHCBA not only held general house meeting to denounce the act but also staged a protest march from the Bar up to the GPO Chowk where lawyers chanted slogans against the government, America and the court. Vice Chairman PbBC and the Chairman Executive Committee of the Council, Zafar Mahmood Mughal, termed release of Raymond a conspiracy against the honour and solidarity of the country and blamed the government for stage managing the whole drama of his release. It has really hurt feelings of the lawyers community like other sections of the society wherein a deep despondency has been created among the masses, they stated alleging that security agencies whose job was protecting the country, were also involved in the release of Raymond. They said by sending Raymond back and the government had sold out the honour and respect of the nation to the American government which would remain irredeemable. They said after release of Raymond the elements engaged in destroying Pakistan would be encouraged. The Bar leaders said the rulers have given a death blow to the national prestige by setting Raymond free and they would certainly face the music of their act in the time to come. The general house of the LHCBA carried resolutions to hold Federal Government, the Punjab Government, Army Chief, DG ISI, Federal Minister for Interior, and CJ LHC responsible for the release of Raymond Davis and condemned their act forcefully. The House also called for resignation of the Federal and the Provincial Government with immediate effect. It also urged the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take suo moto notice of Raymond release otherwise the Bar would move a petition before the SC. The Bar also demanded immediate abolition of the appointments made on contractual basis in every department of the country and removing all such persons without any delay. It also called upon the government to act upon all decisions of the SC and announced to observe black day against Raymond release on Friday (today). The General House meeting was presided over by the Bar President Ashgar Ali Gill while Secretary of the Bar, Arshad Awan Malik, Asad Manzoor Butt, Shakeela Rana, Ahmad Awais, Muhammad Azhar Siddique, Ch Zulfiqar, Musaddue Hussain Asad, Liaqat Ali Qureshi, and Mushtaq Raj advocate spoke to lawyers on the occasion. They termed release of Raymond a big joke with the nation and added hardly any Pakistan would be left who did not come under shock by the release of American killer. They also held equal partner to the Army Chief, DG ISI, and CJ LHC in materialising the 'conspiracy for the release of Raymond. The speakers said killing of two citizens in broad daylight at the hand of Raymond in the heart of the city, is a bigger incident than sacking of the judges at the hand of former dictator. They said our rulers have proved that we had no independence and sovereignty and are slave to American wishes. The 'unashamed rulers, they said, have forgotten that Dr Aafia Siddiqi, daughter of the nation, was languishing in American Jail. They said those who hammered a death nail in the coffin of national honour must be thrown out of the country. Asghar Ali Gill said release of the murderer of two Pakistanis is in fact, a victory of the America. He said his bar strongly protests and condemns the act of forcibly getting signatures on the diyat agreement and keeping Asad Manzoor Butt in detention for four hours at the Kot Lakphat Jail to debar him from attending proceedings of the case.
