Womenfolk face several legal, social and economic obstacles in their struggle for equality. Pragmatic initiatives should be taken for their empowerment, employment and equality. It is the need of the hour to create better job opportunities for women particularly in rural areas of the country as well as in backward areas of Sindh and Balochistan. The Sindh Bank Ltd. and the multinational companies operating in Sindh province can be directed to create more jobs for women in upper and lower Sindh districts. Award for daring and hardworking women of rural Pakistan may also be announced. The women-specific NGOs should be asked to make genuine contribution because seminars and workshops in four and five star hotels would not serve the purpose. Such non-productive activities would not discourage draconian ‘honour killings’ and exchange marriage ‘watta satta’ in the country. Time has come for practical and productive steps to assure rights of women.
