NEW YORK - An organisation dedicated to promoting Pakistani heritage in the United States is organising ‘Basant Mela’ next week in Gilbert, a town in the US state of Arizona, according to an announcement.

The Pakistan Information and Cultural Organisation urged the residents of the town to come to Gilbert’s Crossroads Park on March 25, fly a kite and spend an afternoon listening to Pakistani music, trying some traditional food and shopping in a bazaar featuring jewellery, clothing and henna tattoos. “It’s something very different that most have not tried before,” said organiser Omar Hameed of Gilbert. The announcement said kites imported from Pakistan will be available at $5 (five dollars) apiece, as also a specially-made thread called ‘Dor’ to fly them.

Kite-flying instructors will be available to help people wishing to learn the sport.
