LAHORE  - The challenges and opportunities facing the finance and accountancy profession in the public sector were discussed at an event organised by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants and the Audit and Accounts Training Institute (AATI) of the Auditor General of Pakistan.

ACCA president Martin Turner said “There is a need for finance professionals with a complete range of skills in the public sector as they face issues, including the need for transparency and accountability. “More needs to be done in improving many aspects of public financial management and financial reporting.”

Sabah Rashid, ACCA Member and PFM Specialist at World Bank, also spoke at this event which was attended by senior leadership of AATI and ACCA including Arif Masud Mirza, Head of ACCA Pakistan.

Corporate reporting: Meanwhile, a high level roundtable discussion between MCB Bank Limited and ACCA was held on corporate reporting.

The event was attended by senior management of MCB and ACCA members working at the bank. Senior management of MCB included Ali Munir, GH Strategic Planning & Investment, Mr Ramzan, Group Head Treasury, Mubashar Bashir, Head of Corporate Communication & Marketing and Kamran Rasool, Group Head CSR & Security. Senior management of ACCA included Ms Jenny Gu, Member of ACCA’s Global Council, Rehan Uddin, Head of ACCA Karachi and Muhammad Shahid Khan, Business Development Manager along with others.

Jenny Gu made a presentation on the theme of ‘Corporate Reporting’. She highlighted ACCA’s research ‘Understanding investors research series’ which explores the way corporate perspectives are changing and investors are becoming more sophisticated in using a wider range of corporate information than ever.
