FAISALABAD

The five-day Lyallpur Literature and Art Festival commenced at University of Agriculture Faisalabad here on Monday.

The festival will feature colourful events including Book Fair, Qiraat and Naat Competition, Bilingual Declamation, Punjabi Takra, Quiz Competition, Mushaira and Bait Bazi Competition, Folk Songs Competition, Painting Competition, drama contests and many more. The festival was inaugurated by UAF Vice Chancellor Dr Iqrar Ahmad at Iqbal Auditorium. As many as 40 universities and colleges from all the four corners of the country are participating in the festival.

Speaking on the occasion, the VC said that such festivity always brought forth opportunities for students to exhibit their inborn qualities. He said the UAF was taking all-out steps to harness skills of students not only in the classrooms but also outside the classrooms. He advised the students thinking out of the box to create their own world. Terming the youth an engine for a bright future, he stressed the need for hard work to prove their mettle in the fields of their choice. At the inauguration session, students enthralled the audience with eye-catching performances of different cultural events. 

Senior Tutor Dr Aslam Pervez said that festival was aimed at promoting the literature activities in the third largest city of the country. A large number of people from all walks of life thronged the festival to have the delight of literary activities. In the book festival, more than 30 stalls were set up in which thousands of books ranging from arts to sciences were put on display. Principal Officer Libraries Dr Muhammad Aslam Khan said that the purpose of the book fair is to promote the reading printed materials, books in the youth which is showing declining trends because of invasion of technology advancement.

On Tuesday, Punjabi Takra will be held at 9:00am, Bilingual Declamation at 4:00pm and Mushaira and Bait Bazi Competition (Initial Round) at 4:00pm at Iqbal Auditorium. Wednesday programmes include Quiz Competition at 9:00am at Iqbal Auditorium and Mushaira & Bait Bazi Competition at 4:00pm at Iqbal Auditorium. On Tuesday, Folk song competition at 9:00am and drama competition will be held at 4:00pm at Iqbal Auditorium. On Friday, the drama competition will be held at 9:00am and closing ceremony to be held at 5:00pm at Iqbal Auditorium.
