ISLAMABAD - The National Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges Monday unanimously resolved to include tarmac of all airports across the country in the entry passes being issued to the members of National Assembly.

The committee adopted this resolution while discussing the Question of Privileges raised by MNA’s Najaf Abbas Sial, Sher Akbar Khan, Ghous Bux Khan Mahar, Syed Imran Ahmed Shah and Muhammad Ayaz Soomro.

The meeting chaired by MNA Chaudhry Asadur Rehman took notice of not allowing MNA Muhammad Ayaz Soomro up to tarmac to receive the Sindh chief minister on December 22, 2013 by Talib Hussain, Commanding Officer ASF at Mohenj-o-Daro Airport, Larkana.

To a question, it was informed that airport entry passes issued to MNAs and MPAs are valid for lounges only and not for the tarmac whereupon the committee passed a resolution unanimously to include tarmac in the entry passes issued to MNAs for airports in Pakistan.

The Committee also deferred the question of privilege and directed the concerned authority to initiate the inquiry against the ASF Officer and report to the committee at its next meeting.

The Committee further recommended that Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Civil Aviation Authority would also be invited in the next meeting to discuss the issue of allowing the parliamentarians upto tarmac and bring change in the present policy.

The Committee also took up the question of privilege raised by Najaf Abbas Khan Sial MNA regarding misbehavior of Station Manager Lahore and an official of PIA with the member, at Lahore. 

During meeting the acting Chairman Civil Aviation Authority suspended (Mr. Zaidi), Deputy Manager Lahore airport and ensured that departmental inquiry will he conducted against him to fix responsibility. The Committee deferred further proceedings on the issue and directed the acting Chairman CAA to conduct inquiry against Zaidi and inform the committee in the next meeting.

The question of privileges raised by Sher Akbar Khan and Ghous Bux Khan Mahar were deferred till next meeting. The committee also discussed the question of privilege raised by Syed Imran Shah MNA regarding indifferent attitude of PIA staff at Benazir international Airport, Islamabad.

The committee directed the concerned authority to conduct inquiry in the matter and fix responsibility and submit report to the committee. The Committee further directed the concerned authority to set up separate counters at all airports in Pakistan to facilitate the Parliamentarians at their arrival and departure.
