Lahore - The Supreme Court on Monday hearing a suo moto case directed police to arrest without further delay the culprits involved in committing rape with a five-year-old girl Sumbal.

A two-member bench of the apex court issued this order while hearing a suo moto case into the rape incident here at the SC Lahore Registry.

As proceedings started, senior police officers including SSP Investigation Zulfiqar Hameed and SP Umar Virk appeared before the court and submitted their reply. The judges, however, declared the police reply as unsatisfactory and directed them to re-submit their rejoinder on next date of hearing.

The officers told the court that police needed three more months to accomplish the task.

The court accepted the request and adjourned hearing for three months.

Former Pakistan Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry had taken suo moto notice of a five-year-old girl’s rape incident in Lahore.

On September 13, a five-year-old girl was found outside Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Lahore, the day after she went missing from a low-income neighbourhood in the city. Unidentified men had raped her and later left her at the hospital.
