APC on terror issue today

ISLAMABAD-The ongoing military operation to flush out terrorists from the serene valley of Swat has altogether changed the political landscape of the country by pushing all the burning issues like scrapping of the controversial amendments from the constitution and taking Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) back in the government folds to the back burner. Living up to the appalling miseries of the internally displaced persons from the valley of Swat, Buner and other parts of Malakand Division, not only the countrys political leadership but the whole nation has emerged united against the terrorists who are out to hit the very foundations of the country. Another significant message given to the whole world is that Pakistans military and political leadership is alive to the problem of extremism and is fully capable of tackling it on its own. Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani played a significant role in immaculately handling the whole crisis and therefore immediately after the launch of military operation, he called a session of the National Assembly to put the weight of the whole Parliament behind the military operation against terrorists who mistook the signing of the Nizam-i-Adl accord by the government as its weakness and attempted to create a state within the state. Taking the advice of former premier and Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif and some other national leaders Premier Gilani wasted no time in calling the All Parties Conference (APC) to take into confidence those political parties too which are not part of the Parliament. The APC is being held at the Prime Ministers House today (Monday) and is expected to come out with unanimous support for the ongoing operation against militants. To take advantage of this atmosphere of conciliation and amity, the Pakistan Peoples Party leadership is making efforts to pacify the bitter feelings between the PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif and Pakistan Peoples Party Co-Chairman President Asif Ali Zardari. In this connection serious efforts are underway, an informed source in Pakistan Peoples Party disclosed to TheNation. Another central leader of PPP accepting the massive displacement of the people from Swat and Malakand a result of the military operation and terming it an enormous tragedy said that it had a positive dimension too as it had helped in evolving unity in the political leadership. This has also given the message to all and sundry that people of Pakistan not only abhor terrorism in all its manifestations but the whole nation is united against it, he further said.
