KARACHI - Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Liaquat Baloch has claimed here on Sunday that the US administration wanted to occupy the nuclear assets of Pakistan by declaring the country a failed state through ongoing engineered anti-militants operation. Addressing a Press conference at JI Karachi office, he said that army operation was an engineered operation to create excuses for the US action. It is his first visit to Karachi since he was appointed as secretary-general of the JI. Baloch warned the rulers that the military action in Swat might put stability of the country at stake. He said the operation was launched to please the US. He added that the government is following the US agenda by ignoring unanimously adopted resolution of the parliament. Jamaat-e-Islami demands the government to immediately stop the ongoing operation in Swat and Malakand agency and resolve the issue through traditional jirgas of tribal areas, he urged. Baloch further demanded of the government to grant provincial autonomy to Balochistan and restore the constitution on the position of October 12, 1999. Entire country is in the grip of anarchy and political uncertainty. Situation of Balochistan is out of control after the army operation, he said. The JI official said that peace was restored after the Nizam-e-Adl Regulation (NAR) and Qazi Courts were established. But, he lamented that during President Zardaris United States visit, operation was stared in Swat, Buner and Malakand. He said that government had bypassed the resolution of the parliament. He added that ANP also became part of Swat operation which had earlier agreed with the NAR. He said that thousands of people lost their lives and 1.5 million were displaced due to the army operation in Swat. Americanisation of Pakistan goes on. The US has weakened our religious basis and paved way for the secularisation of society, he said. He further claimed that rulers wanted to repeal the unanimously approved Islamic clauses of 1973 Constitution through creating favourable atmosphere for it. Jamaat-e-Islami assures the nation that Jamaat and allied parties will be able to normalise situation in Swat soon, he maintained. He said the JI had started the countrywide relief activities for the displaced people of Swat on emergency basis. Former City Nazim and Chief of JIs Al-Khidmat Foundation, Naimatullah Khan, presented Rs5 million cheque to Liaquat Baloch for the IDPs.
