PESHAWAR The three-day under-14 Provincial Table-Tennis Talent Hunt Trials will begin from May 18 (today) and will culminate on May 20, 2010 at Qayyum Sports Stadium, Peshawar. These trials will be participated by 54 sportsmen from all over the districts of the province and 20 from FATA as well. This was disclosed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Secretary for Information & Public Relations and Provincial President Table-Tennis Association Azmat Hanif Orakzai in a media conference on Monday at Qayyum Sports Stadium, Peshawar. Azmat Hanif Orakzai said that young talented sportsmen, selected in these trials will be sent to Lahore for participating in the trials for SAF Games. The sportsmen selected in these trails will represent Pakistan in these games to be held at New Delhi in June this year. He said that similar trials will be held before the National Junior Tennis Cup to be held in July at Abbottabad this year. The President Tennis Association said that the shining sportsmen will also represent Pakistan in the Asian Tennis Competitions. He said that Inter-School Trials were scheduled before the national games but these could not be held due to the Matric exams at that time. However, he hoped that these trials will now be held in the forthcoming September after the end of summer vacations. He said that Inter-district competitions will also be held on proper time. Orakzai pointed out that main objectives of the tennis events were to find the talented sportsmen on one hand that can become the national flag holders globally and divert attention of the nation, especially of youth from the prevailing curse of terrorism on the other. He also assured that efforts will be made to increase the existing 2% district sports fund to a suitable level, so that the precious sports goods could be supplied to all the schools of the province.
