SWABI - Labour leaders of the Fuji Corn Complex Jahangira have said that the central office of the Fuji Foundation Rawalpindi has inked an agreement with them under which all the workers would get Rs 160 million while the factory could no longer be run due to its losses.
While talking to media here on Thursday, they said that some other benefits would also be given to them and what their genuine demands were accepted.
Former general secretary of the workers Mohim Shah said that the foundation was represented by Director Industry Brig (r) Sarwar Khan, Finance Manager, Kamran Baloch, General Manager of the Fuji Corn Complex, Col. (r) Muhammad Qaism and Finance Manger Muhammad Ayub and the workers leaders were Kachkul Khan, Chairman, Tufail Khan, President, Abdul Ghaffar, former president and ex-general secretary Mohim Shah. The factory was closed down on May 1 and soon after that the workers had started protests and all the politicians and leaders of the political parties had extended complete support to the workers.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, Ameer Haidar Khan Hoti, had also intervened to resolve the issue when a delegation met him.
He called on the foundation heavyweights to sit across the table with the workers and after his intervention the talks had started between the two sides.
“We have held several rounds of talks over a number of issues and the priority of the workers was to run the factory. However, it was made clear by the officers that they might start a new project in the same factory but the corn operation would not be resumed,” he said.  In reply to a question, he said that under the agreement the agreed amount would be paid to them within a month by the foundation authorities. “Everything thing would be cleared in the stipulated and agreed time,” he said. “The 102 permanent workers would be the main beneficiary of the agreement and they would get the money according to their tenure of the service. Those who have more service would get more money and those who have less service would get a smaller amount,” he said.
He said that the second beneficiary are the 146 contractual employees who would get the five-month salary while the 76 daily wages employees would only receive the salary of the two months. He said that they would get the employees old age-benefits and social security fund under the agreement inked by the two parties. The factory was deducting Rs 460 as EOBI and Rs 600 as social security each month from the salary of each employee.




He said that it was support of the politicians and the shrewdness of the officers that the issue of the workers was resolved by negotiations.
