LAHORE - The Vets Blood Donor Society of University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) organised a one-day free rabies vaccination camp at university’s pharmacology lab on Thursday. Over 400 students were vaccinated against rabies.
The UVAS VC said rabies was killer disease and it should be eliminated through proper vaccination. He explained that every year hundreds of people become prey to rabies death in far-furlong area of the country. He urged the government machinery to launch comprehensive campaign at grass roots level like polio vaccination campaign. He was addressing a seminar on “The awareness and current status of rabies”.
The VC also advised the experts to identify the causes and reasons of spread of rabies and its prevention and cure.
Dean faculty of veterinary sciences Prof Dr Nasim Ahmad and chairman department of epidemiology and public health Prof Dr Athar Khan, Pakistan Veterinary Medical Council president Dr Muhammad Arshad and Novartis vaccine executive Muhammad Husnain Jamal also spoke on the event.
“Rabies can be transferred to humans in the case of an infected animal biting a person. The best cure is prevention,” president vet blood donor society Hafiz Wasim said.
Later, UVAS VC inaugurated the free rabies vaccination camp.
