MIRPUR (AJK) - Eight people were killed and five others injured seriously when an overloaded private jeep slipped off the road and fell into Neelum River here in Neelam valley of AJK, Thursday morning, official sources confirmed. Those lost lives in the mishap included a woman.

AJK Transport Authority Secretary Adil Mahmood Khan told this correspondent on the phone that the private jeep BLN-22, carrying about 13 people was on way from Marnaath Bolawahi village to Keil town, about 100 km from the district headquarter Athmuqam in the Neelam valley, when it met the accident. The vehicle skidded off the road and fell into over 150 feet deep Neelam River. Eight bodies were immediately recovered from the deep waters of the river while five other passengers were rescued but in grievous injured position, Adil Mahmood Khan said. He said that the injured were admitted to hospital in Keil Town. Those killed were identified as Rukhtaj Bibi, Mir Fateh Ali, driver of the jeep Muhammad Hussain, Mir Alam and Muhammad Zaman, all residents of Keil and other adjoining areas. The Police Control Room Athmuqam DHQ of Neelam valley sources said that efforts were underway to bring out the wreckage of the ill-fated vehicle from the river.
