LAHORE – The NAB Punjab authorities claimed on Thursday to have distributed Rs 32.2 million to 250 affectees of Abdul Shakoor, an agent of Tasawar Hussain Gillani group of Double Shah scam. 

Cheque distribution ceremony was held at NAB Punjab and Director General Khurshid Anwar Bhinder distributed cheques among the affectees.  Addressing the ceremony, Bhinder advised the affectees to be careful while investing their hard-earned money.  Appreciating the performance of investigation team, he directed to speed up further distribution of recovered amounts.

Gillani initially worked as a partner of Double Shah, but subsequently formed a separate group and looted Rs 1,932.74 million directly from 3,916 persons and 2,693 people through agents.

The NAB Punjab after taking the cognizance of Double Shah scam arrested all the groups active in the scam including Gillani group and recovered Rs 1193.5 million from the group.

Rs 486.36 million have been distributed so far which include 100 percent payment to 3,218 claimants and 50 percent to 3,241 claimants by Thursday while disbursement of the balance amount is in progress, said NAB Spokesman.

Double Shah scam is one of the biggest financial frauds in the history of Pakistan, which originated in Wazirabad, District Gujranwala and Sambrial, District Sialkot during 2005-2007.
