Tight security for Karachi University

KARACHI  - The University of Karachi will acquire CCTV camera, walk through gates and other equipment in order to strengthen its security arrangements.This was stated by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Qaiser.He also spoke of the fiscal difficulties faced by the University and said that the institution is facing a deficit of Rs848 million for fiscal 2011-12.Prof. Qaiser said that in view of this the university is pursuing industry-academia collaboration and that an agreement would soon be signed with the Karachi Chamber of commerce and Industry (KCCI).He further stated that steps are also being taken for making the process of announcement of results in a transparent manner. The results that were pending for quite sometime are being announced.The Vice-Chancellor said that ads for the existing vacancies would also be placed.Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq visited the Government National Degree Boys College on Thursday to encourage the college principal, Waseem Adil, who has fought against the cheating mafia in the ongoing Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Part-I & II Annual Examinations-2012.The minister met the principal; during the visit the various parts of the college were inspected by the minister. During the papers of the intermediate examinations, the principal of the national college along with his colleague was manhandled by the activists of political students’ wings due to his stand against the use of unfair means in the papers. The minister appreciated the role of the principal in term of organising papers free from cheating.According to official statement of BIEK, “As many as nine candidates were caught while using unfair means in the papers of HSC on Thursday. As many as 87 examination centres have been setup across the city to accommodate as many as 161556 candidates in the first phase of examination. The special vigilance teams, setup by BIEK, have paid surprise visits to various examination centres of the city. These teams were comprised on BIEK Chairman Anwar Ahmed Zai, BIEK Secretary Haider Ali Naveen, Deputy Secretary Qazi Arshad and BIEK Controller Examination Imran Khan Chishti. On the other hand, the officials of district administration also visited the various colleges in the city.
