LAHORE – Punjab Governor Sardar Muhammad Latif Khan Khosa has said that Pakistan and United Kingdom have deep rooted and strong friendly relations. Pakistan considers UK as a trustworthy friend and partner and the Enhanced Strategic Dialogue (ESD) is a manifestation of our mutual desire to further cement the bilateral ties.
The Governor Punjab expressed these views during a meeting with Acting High Commissioner of UK Ms. Elison Blake who called on him at Governor House, here Thursday.
The Governor said it is very important to sustain the momentum generated by the Enhance Strategic Dialogue (ESD). He said that the Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani’s recent successful visit to the UK has cemented the stronger relations between two nations, he added. They also discussed the bilateral, regional and global issues. The Governor appreciate the UK’s role in the field of Education and Trade and said Pakistan eyes at enhancing the trade between both countries to 2.5 billion pounds by 2015.
He also lauded the Britain assistance of 650 million pounds for the promotion of primary education in Pakistan.
The people of Pakistan are thankful to the UK government for this solid contribution, which will be long remembered by the people of Pakistani. The Governor further said that Pakistan is a peace loving and responsible country which believes in trade rather than aid.
On this occasion the Acting High Commissioner appreciated the Pakistan’s role in the elimination of terrorism and the great sacrifices it gave to end this scourge. She also said that UK will extend its full cooperation in the sector of education and trade for the betterment of the Pakistani people.
