ISLAMABAD- Inspector General, National Highways & Motorways, Zulfiqar Ahmad Cheema has directed that patrolling on highways and motorways should be made more effective and meaningful and stated that driving license would be suspended if speed limit was violated thrice.
He said this while chairing operational meeting of senior Operational Commanders of Lahore, Karachi, Sukkur, Multan and Quetta through video link form the HEC campus, Islamabad during which important operational matters related to all zones were discussed in detail.
He said over/improperly loaded trucks and trailers will not be allowed to ply on highways and motorways. Strict legal action will be initiated against those who violate the rules.
The Inspector General said that passenger overloading in PSVs would not be tolerated in any case. He reiterated that commuters must be provided help with enthusiasm and the quality of service provided to any individual in distress would be used to evaluate officer's performance while considering him for annual reward. He directed that efforts to inculcate core values, like courtesy, integrity and honesty, in officers must be enhanced.
Emphasizing lane discipline on highways and motorways he said that lane discipline should be assured without any tolerance and strict action must be taken without any exception. He highlighted the importance of training and said that the quality of training would be raised at par international standards. He stressed all operational officers "to make NH&MP best department of the continent Asia and we all have to play our role. Good repute of the department is symbol of national pride and should not be deteriorated at any cost."
All DIGs and SSPs briefed Inspector General about their zonal and sector performance. At the end of the meeting, Inspector General thanked the HEC for their cooperation.
