We don’t tire of condemning the rising target killing and saying it is high time that their patrons were uprooted, but shy away when the time comes. An opportunity did arise when a hardened killer, wanted to atone for his crimes through a last minute confession. The government postponed his hanging and an enquiry was held. This caused considerable consternation among his patrons and their sympathisers. Whether or not this last minute reprieve has yielded any pay dirt we will never know but there is jubilation in certain quarters at the failure of the JIT in reaching any conclusion. It appears that the names of the patrons will never be known, they are too well protected by their men in the print and electronic media. What is required is a drastic overhaul of all media persons should be conducted, if we are ever to find peace in Karachi.
