SIALKOT-Only two of a total 30 water filtration plants are functional while the rest are out of order in Sambrial city and its surrounding areas.

The people have been suffering great ordeal in getting potable water. The local people have strongly protested against the negligence of Sambrial Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) for its prolonged failure in ensuring early rectification of these out of order water filtration plants.

The protesting people said that the local people have been suffering several waterborne diseases as they remain unable to take potable water. They said that there were total 30 water filtration plants in Sambrial city and its outskirts, out of which only two plants have been working.

They said that despite the repeated appeals made by the local TMA officials, they have taken no practical step to ensure early rectification of the plants. The protesting people of Sambrial have expressed grave concern over the critical situation. They have urged Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif to ensure early rectification of the water filtration plants.

Meanwhile, the special surveillance teams of Gepco raided various congested areas of Sialkot city and caught red handed eight accused while stealing electricity from the main electricity cables.

According to officials, Gepco has got registered separate cases against accused Khalid, Iqbal, Nasir, Junaid, Bashir Ahmed and Ghulam Rasul.

SCCI VISIT: Regional Police Officer (RPO) Gujranwala Region Muhammad Tahir will visit Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) on Wednesday. According to acting SCCI President Muhammad Sarfraz Butt, the RPO will discuss in details the matters of mutual interest with Sialkot exporters during an important meeting scheduled to be held at SCCI here.

ACE asks govt to fire 93 corrupt officials

The Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) has recommended immediate suspension of 93 booked officials of different government departments for their involvement in corruption.

The ACE has written the recommendatory letters with the copies of the FIRs to the heads of different government departments seeking early suspension of the accused.

ACE Regional Director Rana Abdul Shakur told newsmen that as per the rules of the ACE, no accused official can work on his seat after his/her involvement in a corruption case till the verdict of court.

He said that the ACE has also decided not to give no-objection certificate to these corrupt officials for their departmental promotion till their clearance by the concerned courts. Shakur said that the ACE has also written letters to the district administration of Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat, Mandi Bahaud Din, Hafizabad and Gujranwala districts to ensure early removal of 93 corrupt officials of police, education, health, revenue and highways departments and TMAs, as they had been working on their seats despite the registering of corruption and embezzlement cases against them by the ACE.

PASSENGER HELD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) today arrested a passenger while trying to travel to Europe via Dubai through Sialkot International Airport on fake visa.

Sheraz Maseeh was trying to travel from Sialkot international airport to Europe via Dubai on fake travelling documents, when the FIA detected his travelling documents as fake and arrested him.

Sheraz told the FIA investigators that he took fake travelling documents from agent Mansur Ahmed Yousaf and sub agent Rafaqat alias Kashif by paying him huge amounts. FIA has sent the accused behind bars after registering a case against him.

It was the third incident of offloading the passenger during the last week at Sialkot international airport. Earlier, the FIA had offloaded two accused Shehzad Ahmed and Zohaib Suhail Piracha on fake documents.
