Pak project wins Unilever’s young entrepreneur award

LAHORE (PR): Unilever and the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership have announced that Dr Sara Saeed of Pakistan has won the third HRH The Prince of Wales Young Sustainability Entrepreneur Prize.

Dr Sara Saeed, 29, co-founder of doctHERs – a digital platform which connects impoverished communities in Pakistan to high-quality healthcare while reintegrating qualified female doctors into the workforce – was awarded the prize at an awards ceremony in London, UK.

doctHERs has treated 100 patients in their pilot phase and directly impacted 15,000 lives and now employs ten doctors, five nurses and three specialists. By 2020, they aim to reach 1.2 million patients.

Shazia Syed, Chairperson & CEO, Unilever Pakistan highlighted, “I am delighted by the passion and determination Dr Saeed has shown to increase access to healthcare and women empowerment in the field of medicine. Her work indicates the gaining momentum for the Sustainable Development Goals that Unilever also supports. Young entrepreneurs need our help and support to realise their initiatives and change the world to create a brighter future. I am especially proud to see a Pakistani receive this prestigious award this year.”

As part of the prize Dr Sara Saeed has been awarded capital for her start-up and a tailored mentoring programme delivered by the University of Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) and Unilever over the course of the year.

PC Lahore’s new general manager appointed

LAHORE (PR): The owners and board of directors of Hashoo Group Tuesday appointed Zulfiqar Malik as new general manager of the Pearl Continental Hotel, Lahore – the largest hotel in Pakistan. Malik has arrived from Islamabad after successfully completing his tenure as General Manager – PC Bhurban. He brings with him 25 years of diversified management experience in the hospitality industry in Pakistan and abroad.

After completing his education, he added a feather in his cap by completing General Manager Certification Program (GMP) from the renowned Cornell University New York. Malik is a seasoned management executive having to his credit very impressive achievements and credentials with extensive international experience and a career path that took him from Paris Marriott Hotel, Doha Marriott, Riyadh Marriott, Islamabad Marriott, Karachi Marriott, PC Karachi and PC Bhurban.

He successfully re-opened Islamabad Marriott Hotel after 20th September, 2008 terrorist attack and substantially improved overall performance of Hashoo Group Hotels by demonstrating his strength to rally around talented people and combine efforts to make things better. He has received various award including “General Manager Of The Year Award” from Marriott International Inc.”

Engro Foundation, Seed Ventures sign MoU

ISLAMABAD (PR): Engro Foundation and SEED Ventures have signed an MoU for corporate incubation, impact investment, and entrepreneurial ecosystem development in Pakistan.

The MoU was signed by Head of Engro Foundation Aman ul Haque and SEED Ventures’ CEO & Co-Founder Faraz Khan in Karachi, in the presence of director & co-founder SEED Ventures Khusro Ansari, Director Engro Foundation Favad Soomro.

According to the MoU, both sides have agreed to work collaboratively as partners through various programmes that would promote and enhance the entrepreneurial capacity of various cities across Pakistan.

The partners are also focus on impact investments engaging local stakeholders and studying the landscapes of cities across Pakistan for the best possible interventions.

Speaking at the occasion, Aman ul Haque said: “This partnership with SEED will help us move from a philanthropic model to a social investment model that not only provides employment but looks to tackle social issues at the community level.”

Faraz Khan commented that it is of utmost importance that we understand the need for creating an environment conducive for entrepreneurial growth.”

ABL AMC, TCF join hands

KARACHI (PR): ABL Asset Management (ABL AMC) & The Citizen Foundation (TCF) have joined hands to empower the lives of millions of underprivileged children for whom the prospect of a proper education is a distant dream. An MoU was signed between the two organizations whereby ABL AMC will utilize its distribution network to raise and manage donated funds for TCF to achieve a common goal i.e. investing in our future generation.

Any individual or organization, wishing to contribute for this noble cause in the shape of Zakat or donation, can put a minimum contribution of Rs. 1,000 in the TCF accounts maintained at ABL AMC. The money thus raised will be utilized by TCF to open and maintain schools as well as provide books and scholarships to deserving children.

Sadequain paid tributes

ISLAMABAD (PR): Tributes were paid to legendary artist Sadequain Tuesday at an exhibition of his unexplored raw sketches & portraits, titled “Sadequain in intimate moments” by Hashoo Hotels. The preview was held at the Pearl Continental Hotel Karachi. It bears remembrance that Sadequain’s first ever exhibition in a five-star hotel was held on the same date, half a century ago on 17th May 1976, at the same venue that bears the name Pearl Continental Karachi, today.
