Internet access and mobile coverage will prove to be essential for the trekking and mountaineering groups as it would enable them to stay in touch with their families and would prove to be beneficial in keeping a track of them in emergency situations.
The initiative became possible by the efforts of Special Communication Organization (SCO). The efforts had been made in order to make sure that the world’s second tallest peak K2 base camp gets essential communication facilities.
In light of the government’s aim of stimulating tourism across the country, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and other telecom operators are aiming to focus on making the telecommunication services better, especially in the areas who possess profound tourism potential.
Prime Minister Imran Khan inaugurated the site, during his recent visit to Gilgit-Baltistan.
