Army can meet challenges, says Gen Kayani

ISLAMABAD " Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said that valiant troops of Pakistan Army are fully capable to meet the challenges to security and stability of the motherland. According to ISPR, the COAS stated this while addressing troops on the occasion of Sesqui Centennial Ceremony of an Armour Regiment at Pano Aqil Garrison on Monday. He appreciated the services and sacrifices of officers and jawans of the Regiment for the defence of the country. General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani also visited the Division Headquarters where he was briefed about the operational and administrative matters. He also visited the training area and saw the troops engaged in realistic and extensive training. Earlier, the COAS laid a wreath at Shuhada's Monument (Pakistan Chowk) and offered Fateha. Corps Commander Karachi, Lieutenant General Shahid Iqbal was also present on the occasion. Meanwhile, Chief of Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani will leave for Brussels today for talks with senior NATO officials. During the three-day visit, he will participate in the meeting of Chiefs of Defence (CHODs) and discuss a comprehensive approach towards complexities of security, including implications of US drone strikes in tribal areas. Gen Kayani would visit Brussels on a special invitation from the chairman of NATO military committee Admiral Giampaolo Di Paolo. The committee is the highest military forum and meets regularly to discuss strategic issues concerning NATO. It provides advice on military matters to NATO's civilian decision-making bodies, the North Atlantic Council, the Defence Planning Committee and the Nuclear Planning Group.
