ISLAMABAD - In order to acknowledge the extraordinary talent of youth and to build their confidence level, the Ministry of Youth Affairs has invited youngsters for taking part in several national and international awards and competitions of 2008 announced in diverse categories. All these plans were announced with a view to facilitate youngsters of a country for providing them an opportunity to take benefit from it and enhanced their creative capabilities. These plans were included the "National Business plan competition", "National Easy Writing Competition 2008", "Computer literacy Program", "National Business Plan Competition 2008", "SAARC Youth Awards Scheme 2008", "Commonwealth Youth Awards 2008"and "Outstanding Achievement Award 2008". "We had announced different competitions and awards in 2008 for recognising role of our youth in diverse fields," said official within the Youth Affairs Ministry while talking to TheNation here on Monday. He said that these awards would encourage participation of youth in community development activities and help promoting national integration and harmony among the young generation. He described that lack of prospects for proper business techniques always caused the demise of many entrepreneurial ventures, and in this regard the "Commonwealth Youth Awards 2008","SAARC Youth Awards 2008" and Commonwealth workshop would facilitate youth generation and give them proper guideline for making their business more profitable. The Commonwealth Youth Awards 2008 and SAARC Youth Awards 2008 were commenced for the overall development of the youth in the region. These awards would be only conferred upon only those youngsters, who did outstanding work according to selected theme of a year and they also got good feedback. An official of the Ministry said we are gathering just projects reports of youngsters form all over the county, which would be forwarded to the Commonwealth Secretariat and SAARC Secretariat, and their management would select best project of youngsters from each country, and would take the final decision about winners. "Incentives would also provided to winners of these awards, which would also help empower them for developing their potentials, creativity and skills as productive and dynamic members of their societies," official noted. To a question, he said that process of selection for all these competitions and awards is transparent, as proper procedures always being followed for nominating winners of these awards and competitions. In recent past two young ladies participated in a five-day workshop of commonwealth through platform of Youth Ministry. The workshop was being organised for youngsters of Commonwealth member countries for giving them proper parameters regarding business techniques. It was learnt that at present the Youth Affairs Ministry is all set to announce results of National Essay Writing Competition of 2008. Although all these projects were launched on national level and youngsters of every nook and corner of the country must be well aware about these competitions and awards. However contrary to it youth even did not have any information about plans of the youth affairs ministry On condition of anonymity, an official informed that dominant majority of the youth couldn't take benefit from the projects of Youth Ministry owing to the absence of proper awareness campaign of the programmes. But On the other side, official of the Ministry were of the view that they always announce their project with using their limited resources, but it seems that our youth are not interested to participate in these competitions, and we often get limited number of reports or applications of youth.
