The House resumed its sitting of the session on Monday with a delay of over an hour, and after the recitation of the Holy Quran and Na'at, Minister Law Rana Sana Ullah Khan requested the Acting Speaker Rana Mashhood Ahmed Khan for moving the condolence resolution after suspending the rules. Rana Sana read the following condolence resolution: "This esteemed House and all the employees of the Punjab Assembly Secretariat express their profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of former MPA and former Deputy Speaker PA Sardar Shaukat Hussain Mazari. They term his death as an irreparable loss and an unbridgeable gap. The late (Mazari) was a noble and sincere man, and a seasoned parliamentarian. He always advocated the politics of principles; strived for strengthening of democracy; believed in public service; thought of Pakistan and was a popular personality of his area. "The late (Shaukat Hussain Mazari) was born on February 10, 1948 in Rojhan, Rajanpur district and was the son of Sardar Muhammad Hussain Mazari, then renowned parliamentarian. "He received primary education from Sadiq Public School, Bahawalpur, and Graduated from Government College Lahore. During his studentship, he had been President of Pakistan Students Association in the Blake Burn College of Technology and Design, UK. "He had, for the first time, elected to the Punjab Assembly and was made provincial minister in 1977. He had been elected Member of District Council in 1979 and 1982. He had also served as Deputy Opposition Leader in Punjab Assembly from 1988 to 1990. He had also the honour of being Pakistan's representative in the UN General Assembly in 1974 and 1995. "The late Sardar Shaukat Hussain Mazari thrice elected to the Punjab Assembly in the general election 2002 and served as Punjab Assembly's Deputy Speaker for five years. During this period, he had also performed his duties as Chairman of the Punjab Assembly Library Committee. As a Deputy Speaker and Acting Speaker, he had run the house business with impartiality and according to the rules and regulations, and always allowed the opposition benches to play their parliamentary role. "During the general election-2008, he was elected MPA for the fourth time as an independent member and then joined the PML-N. His affiliation with Punjab Assembly can be well judged from the fact that he breathed his last in the House. "The tragic death of Sardar Shaukat Hussain Mazari has not only deprived this House of a veteran parliamentarian but the employees of Assembly Secretariat also were deprived of his kindness and guidance. He will be remembered for long. "This House prays to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear this loss with fortitude. The House gave its consent for moving the resolution.
