LAHORE-The PPP's Punjab President Rana Aftab Ahmad Khan on Monday expressed his dissatisfaction over performance of Punjab Government, saying that PPP workers would only be satisfied when they get relief under the present provincial set up. Addressing a news conference after chairing a meeting of party's divisional heads here on Monday, Rana made it clear that if PPP was part of Punjab Government, it was not out of any compulsion; rather, it was so because no political party in Punjab Assembly had the required number to form Government single-handedly. "Being the second largest political group in the assembly, it was PPP's right to get its due share in Punjab Government", he maintained, and added that PPP workers were not satisfied the way they were being treated in Punjab. Replying to a question, the PPP leader said that Punjab Governor was representative of federal government and was performing his duties according to the constitution. Rana said his party believed in politics of conciliation and it was under this spirit that it formed coalition governments in the provinces of Sindh, Balochistan and NWFP. Even in Sindh, where the PPP enjoyed absolute majority, it preferred to make coalition Government along with MQM, he made his point. He said PPP wanted to keep Punjab coalition intact, but at the same time, it was not ready to give up its share of power in the province. He, however, said, that PPP was not having any major disagreement with the PML-N in Punjab, and hoped that things would move in the right direction. To a question, Aftab said he was in favour of making new recruitments on the basis of open merit and not through quota system. Talking about preparations his party was making to observe its foundation day, the PPP leader said that a grand convention would be held in Lahore at Alhamra Cultural Complex on November 30 to mark the day. It would be followed by a series of conventions at the district level, which would culminate on December 27, the first death anniversary of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, he added. Later, Rana Aftab chaired a meeting of party's Lahore organisation to review arrangements being made to observe party's foundation day. PPP's Lahore President Haji Azizur Rehman Chan, General Secretary Sami Ullah Khan and Secretary Information Zekria Butt attended the meeting along with other office bearers.
