A roadside bomb targeting a military convoy killed two soldiers and wounded seven others Sunday in Mir Ali area of North Waziristan near the Afghan border, officials said.

The device was planted along the route of the convoy in the Mir Ali area 35 kilometres (21 miles) east of Miranshah, the main town in the North Waziristan region, they said.

"The explosion killed at least two soldiers and injured seven others," a security official in Miranshah said on condition of anonymity.

Another local security official confirmed the attack and said two of some 10 to 15 vehicles in the convoy were severely damaged.

The injured security personnel were air lifted to Peshawar for treatment.

Heavy contingent of security forces cordoned off the area after the blast and started search operation.
