Lahore: Punjab Chief Secretary Khizar Hayat Gondal yesterday formed a committee to devise a strategy for dilapidated buildings .

The committee, comprising LDA DG, Walled City Authority DG and housing secretary, will prepare recommendations regarding demolishing, reconstruction and repair of dangerous declared buildings.

Chairing a meeting at the Civil Secretariat, the chief secretary said that protection of life and property of people is the top priority of government.

He said following the Sundar factory fall, practical measures were being adopted to avert such incidents. The chief secretary directed the Lahore commissioner to conduct a survey to identify buildings affected by the recent earthquake. He also ordered the authorities to speed up construction work of dilapidated school buildings.

Also, the chief secretary presided over a meeting to review Land Record Management and Information System. Speaking on the occasion, he said that the land record computerization was helping resolve public problems. He directed that all possible steps be taken to benefit people from this project.
