LAHORE - Faiz Foundation Trust in collaboration with the Lahore Arts Council has arranged a four-day First Faiz International Festival which would begin from Thursday at Alhamra Art Centre.

Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif will inaugurate the event while prominent artists and personalities will attend various events chalked out for the festival.

According to Saleema Hashmi of the Faiz Foundation Trust the Festival will include 30 literary/political sessions, five book launches, a Mushaira, four theatre performances,two dance performances, theatre and puppetry workshops, and activities for children with Uncle Surgam being part of the activities.

Besides performing arts and music, there will be three keynote speakers of the Festival which include famous British Pakistani writer, journalist, filmmaker and intellectual Tariq Ali, eminent Indian Urdu critic, poet and theorist Shamsur Rehman Faruqi and a distinguished Urdu scholar from Russia Dr Ludmila Vasilyeva.

A crowd pulling event of the four-day Festival would be the performance by world renowned Indian actor Naseeruddin Shah as ‘Einstein’.Indian singer Sonam Kalra,famous for her Sufi Kalam recitations and Faiz’s poetry, is also deemed to be a popular choice of the visitors, said organisers.
