Zahid Hamid takes oath as federal minister

ISLAMABAD - President Mamnoon Hussain Tuesday administered the oath of office to MNA Zahid Hamid as Federal Minister in a special ceremony held here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.
Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Barrister Zafarullah Khan, Special Assistant to Prime Minister, Khawaja Zaheer Ahmed, Special Assistant to Prime Minister, members of parliament and senior government officials also attended the oath-taking ceremony. The oath-taking ceremony was conducted entirely in Urdu language.
The prime minister approved the nomination of Zahid Hamid as new Federal Minister for Climate Change. In 2013, Hamid participated to defend his NA-114 constituency in the general elections. Hamid remained federal minister for Science and Technology, Federal Minister for Law and Human Rights and Minister of State for Defense, Investment and Privatisation. He was born in Lahore on October 24, 1947. He is a learned man. After graduating from local school, in 1971, he graduated with an LLB in law from the Punjab University. For higher studies, Hamid went to United Kingdom to attend the Cambridge University.
After finishing up his higher studies in 1980s, Hamid started his career as professional lawyer and eventually becoming a senior advocate at the Supreme Court of Pakistan. In 1990s, he worked extensively on the field of environmental law in environmental issues and campaigned towards environmental conservatism. He advised and helped drafted the federal laws on protecting the environment. In 1997, his recommendations and advises were taken under consideration which resulted in establishment of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) authorized by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in 1997. He also contributed in drafting Pakistan Environmental Protection Act 1997. 

Eventually, he tenured as the first Director General of the Environmental Protection Agency.
It is an important development before the COP-21 going to be held in France end from 30th November to 11th December, 2015.Now Ministry of Climate Change, Pakistan can have strong representation in COP-21 under the leadership of such a knowledgeable person. Ends
