MIRPUR (AJK)-Speakers including Sajjad Haider Karim, a Pakistani-origin member of the European Parliament, have called for early grant of the right to self-determination to the people of Jammu & Kashmir without further loss of time.
There were speaking at a mammoth congregation during reception hosted in the honour of Mr Karim by Senior Minister of AJK Tariq Farooq. Sajjad Karim is a British Conservative Member of the European Parliament representing the North West of England and is the founding chairman of the European Parliament Friends of Pakistan Group.
The speakers paid rich tributes to Sajjad Haider Karim for his meritorious services to the Kashmir cause in European countries including Britain. They highlighted the importance of early peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue for the sake of emergence of everlasting peace in South Asia in particular and the world over in general.
They emphasised the need for early solution to the Kashmir issue in the external world to muster the due support of the international community to the national Kashmir cause.
Mr Karim continued that early peaceful settlement of Kashmir issue was the need of hour and the Pakistani-origin members of the British and European parliaments would leave no stone unturned to raise the urgent need of the early peaceful solution to Kashmir issue. The Pakistan-born member of European Parliament revealed that a Kashmir group would be created to raise voice against the increased human rights abuses by the Indian occupational forces against the freedom-loving people in Indian occupied Jammu & Kashmir who launched struggle for the liberation of the motherland from the long Indian forced and unlawful occupation.
Jammu & Kashmir Liberation League President Justice (r) Abdul Majeed Mallick called upon the international community including the United Nations Secretary General to move for ensuring the implementation of the UN resolutions on Kashmir to pave the way for the settlement of Kashmir conflict without further loss of time.
The JKLL President invited the attention of the UN Secretary General that in view of the past record, India is perusing the policy to perpetuate status quo in the internationally-acknowledged disputed Himalayan State of Jammu & Kashmir.
He continued that at present Jammu & Kashmir State was neither part of India nor it acceded to Pakistan and at the same time it enjoyed the status of an independent state with effect from enforcement of Indian Independence Act of August 15th, 1947, he maintained.
He strongly proposed that the Jammu & Kashmir state should immediately be given the status of an observer in the United Nations through the acknowledged leadership of the state till the time the plebiscite is held and the future of the State determined by the people.
Mallick said that Islam guarantees universal human rights and universal peace. In order to bring harmony, tranquillity, justice and peace in the world, it was enjoined upon the comity of nations to adhere to tenets and injunctions postulated by Islam, he stated. He urged that in the reference to the world peace be mentioned restoration of peace and order in the Indian- occupied Jammu & Kashmir state where human rights were being vastly abused with constant increase day by day.
“A large number of persons were being found missing and imprisoned in jails without trial in the turbulent Indian occupied valley,” he pointed out. He emphasised that since India invoked the jurisdiction of the United Nations Security Council by seeking truce and ceasefire with a surety to a plebiscite in the state to enable the people of Jammu & Kashmir to decide their future by self determination.
He paid rich tributes to MEP Sajjad Haider Karim for pleading the cause of freedom and right to self-determination in the European Parliament and the Western World in effective manner. “As such, Karim is also a committed and valiant Kashmiri similar to other subjects (people) of the Himalayan Jammu & Kashmir State,” he remarked.
