Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has called for equal distribution of resources among all federating units.
While addressing a public gathering in Jhelum on Sunday, the minister said that in past all resources were spent on big cities. He said in Lahore Rs 70,000/- have been spent per person in last ten years.
He said the government will make sure that the public money is spent on the rightful projects with a view to bringing the far-off areas at par with the developed areas.
He said Jhelum and its surrounding areas bear huge historical importance, but unfortunately no government tried to develop these areas. He criticised the past governments for exercising negligence in terms of development of these areas. He said people of Jhelum were contributing billions of rupees as taxes to the national exchequer, but in return this area got nothing.
He also cited example of Balochistan where people were forced to lead a difficult life because of government negligence. He said that Balochistan in the past did not get its due share.
The information minister said he would continue to unmask irregularities committed during the tenure of past governments.
Imran Khan wants to empower the local governments so that they could serve the people at the grassroots level, he concluded.
