LAHORE - Pakistan’s Natalia Zaman shocked third seed Ekaterina Suvorova of Russia in the ITF Pakistan ITA-Midcourt International Junior Tennis Championships girls singles quarterfinals played at PTF Tennis Complex Islamabad.
Natalia is the only Pakistan’s hope in the girls singles as she managed to beat her superior opponent Ekaterina Suvorova of Russia by 7-5, 6-4. The local player played sensibly and held her nerves to win the hard-fought first set by 7-5. She played comparatively better tennis in the second set and conceded four points to win the set 6-4, thus booked berth in the semifinals.
In other girls singles quarterfinals, Abhilasha Bista of Nepal played tremendous tennis against India’s Sai Harshitaa Adivi and trounced her 6-0, 6-0 while Daria Stefania Malaescu of Romania outpaced Olga Sorochkina of Russia 6-4, 6-3 and USA’s Goetz Taylor, the girls singles title winner of the last event, comfortably overcome Nepal’s Sharvani Shrestha 6-3, 6-1.
In the boys singles quarterfinals, Aarav Samrat Hada (NEP) beat Nikita Safonov (RUS) 6-2, 1-6, 6-3, USA’s Abhishek Thorat, who won the boys singles title in the last event, had to struggle hard to beat Dimitry Bessonov (RUS) 6-3, 3-6, 6-0, Amir Asylkozhaev (RUS) beat Aryan Giri (NEP) 6-1, 6-0 and Mujtaba Ali Khan (USA) beat Teano Balducci (FRA) 6-1, 6-2.
In the boys doubles quarterfinals, Aarav Samrat Hada/Aki Zuben Rawat beat Nikita Safonov/Fedor Sosedkin 6-2, 6-3; Dev Kanbargimath/Abhishek Thorat beat Aryan Giri/Hamid Israr 6-4, 6-1; Amir Asylkozhaev/Dmitry Bessonov beat Teano Balducci/Haider Ali Rizwan 6-2, 6-1; Mujtaba Ali Khan/Ferdi Tangal beat Abdullah Adnan/Sami Zeb Khan 6-4, 6-2. In the girls doubles quarterfinals, Abhilasha Bista/Taylor Goetz beat Soha Ali/Natlia Zaman 6-1, 6-2; Daria Stefania Malaescu/Sharvani Shrestha beat Zara Khan/Fatima Ali Raja 6-0, 6-1.
