LAHORE - The 87th match of the Pakistan Premier Football League 2009 ended 1-1 between Chamans Afghan FC and former national title-holder HBL at Govt High School, Chaman. Both the team struck through their defenders Amjad Yousof (HBL), Obaid Ullah (Afghans) which were also first goals for both of them in ongoing competition. It was game between two teams who were lurking in last five positions before the kick-off. HBL held territorial advantage right form the words go and Afghans keeper Jehangir Khan denied the bankers from scoring, diving full length to save drives from strikers Zakir Lashari and Khayal Muhammad in the 15th and 21st minute respectively. But HBL continued their fine offensive display and tucked the opener in the 25th minute when winger Bilal Ahmed cut the ball back from bye-line and Amjad Yousuf was on hand to beat Jehangir all ends up. HBL led 1-0 at interval and might have scored more in second session but Jehangir was alert below cross-piece. Afghans, after a lackluster first session, put up some fine attacks in the second session and they hit the equalizers in the 90th minute when right full Obaid raced onto Ahmed Shahs pass to fire the ball past Sajid Hussain with forceful shot. Obaid ullahs strike was 200th goal of the event. After completion of 86 matches, KRL kept leadership with 32 points in 12 matches, three points ahead of National Champion Pakistan WAPDA (29 pts). Pakistan Navy secured 27 points in 13 outings to keep third place. KRL and Navy are still only unbeaten teams in the event. Pakistan Army, the two teams never missed the top two berth in last six years along with WAPDA, are in fourth position with 25 points. Nine-times national Champion PIA are in fifth spot with 17 points. PEL, PAF, PMC and HBL are from sixth to ninth spot with 15 points each, followed by KPT (14 pts) and 11th-place KESC (13 points). Afghan FC collected 13 points in as many matches to stay at 12th spot. NBP (11 pts) and Baloch FC (2 pts) are in 13th and 14th place respectively and fighting for survival.
