Malnutrition threat

In flood-affected areas, malnutrition has emerged as a serious threat to the victims especially children. Children are faced with the risk of suffering from various deadly diseases on account of malnutrition and poor sanitation in the affected areas. The UN has already warned about the threat of water-borne diseases to millions of children. Among the diseases on the rise in flood-hit areas, diarrhoea and malaria are most serious. There is an urgent need for nutrition assistance plan, especially for the young children and women. We have to supply them with supplementary food and medicine. -MARIUM YAQOOB, Karachi.
