LAKKI MARWAT - Speakers at a seminar ‘on national voters’ day’ has stressed the need for educating people about the importance of voting and elections to strengthen democracy in the country.

The seminar was arranged at the Municipal Auditorium Hall by District Election Commission on Wednesday. DCO Nisar Ahmad, ACO Liaqat Ali Bhatti, District Election Commissioner Noorza Ali Shah, Assistant Election Commissioner Hamidullah Khan, Human Resource Development Officer Syed Khalid Israr Shah, ADO education Tahir Ahmad, former nazim Abdul Mutlib and influential Saifullahs’ representative Ameer Mashal Khan were among the speakers.

They said that voters’ education was inevitable for the continuity of democracy and for the stability of democratic institutions. They maintained that ignorance of people about the importance of elections and casting votes could harm the process of democracy in the country.

They also said that the civil society, NGOs and political parties should play their role to educate people on the importance of voting. They called upon the eligible youth to get themselves enrolled in the voter lists by registering their votes with election authorities.

“People can benefit from voters’ verification process launched by Election Commission besides they especially eligible young can register their votes through a simple and easy process”, they added.
