WAZIRABAD - As many as 760 people were killed during the last nine months in various incidents in the Gujranwala Division, as per police sources.

The sources detailed that 245 people were killed in Gujranwala district, 149 in Sialkot, 153 in Gujrat, 80 in Mandi Bahauddin, 68 in Narowal and 65 in Hafizabad including women too. Old enmity, rivalry, land dispute, dacoity and kidnapping for ransom were the main reasons of the human loss. Most of the murders took place due to land disputes.

Regional Police Officer Amin told TheNation that a many persons were rounded up in order to take an action and to prevent such incidents in the future. He added that following the chief minister's directives, a number of committees had been formed for reconciliation between rivals to avoid bloodshed and the committees have started producing positive results.

The steps taken against the anti social elements remained helpful in controlling the crime due to which crime ratio has dropped  to some extent, he said.
