LAHORE – The Punjab Aids Control Programme (PACP) organised a two-day training workshop for doctors serving in different jails of the province to ensure provision of better health care to the patients and control spread of deadly disease in prisons.

Addressing the inaugural session of the workshop on Wednesday, PACP Project Director Dr Salman Shahid said that the basic purpose of the workshop was to check the spread of Aids among jail inmates. He briefed the participants about the present situation in Punjab and the treatment facilities being provided to the Aids patients in government hospitals.

Lahore Prisons DIG Mubashar Malik said that prisoners needed counselling and awareness regarding HIV/Aids. He said that all the doctors working in prisons would benefit from this training workshop and would be able to provide better treatment facilities to patients.

Prisons Department Technical Officer (Health) Dr Ahmed Zulfiqar, PACP Deputy Project Director Faisal Majeed and PACP Programme Coordinator Saadia Naeem also attended the inaugural session.
