Pakistan, China sign cooperation accord


ISLAMABAD  - Pakistan and China signed an agreement for cooperation in economic, technology and promotion of culture during a ceremony at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Wednesday.The ceremony was witnessed by President Asif Ali Zardari and visiting Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of Communist Party of China Central Committee, (CPCCC), Li Changchun who led a Chinese delegation.The agreement on economic and technological cooperation between Pakistan and China for a grant of seventy million Yuan was signed by Chinese Vice Minister Jiang Zengwei and Economic Affairs Division Acting Secretary Iftikhar Rao on behalf of their respective countries.The executive programme of the cultural cooperation under the cultural cooperation agreement, signed in 1985, was extended for another period of three years from 2013 to 2015. It was signed by Chinese Minister of Culture Cai Wu and Minister of National Heritage and Integration of Pakistan Samina Khalid Gurki on behalf their respective governments.President Zardari called for taking Pak-China bilateral trade, investment and defence ties to new heights as time-tested friendship between the two countries matured into a comprehensive strategic partnership. "Strengthening and further cementing cooperation with China in all areas is and will remain the key principles guiding Pakistan's foreign policy," he said while talking to the visiting delegates at a meeting.The president said that the Pak-China historical relationship that was characterized by mutual trust, respect and cooperation transcends the governmental level and permeates to level of the people of the two countries.Zardari said the government and the people of Pakistan valued their relations with their Chinese brethren and eager to translate the full potential of this relationship for mutual benefit of the two countries. He said China had become a beacon of hope for the developing countries and is a great source of inspiration. The historical rise of China over the past 63 years is a testimony of the wisdom of its leaders and reflects the genius of its people, the president said.
