KARACHI - Mufti Mehmood was remembered at a function in the provincial capital on Wednesday that stressed the need for following in the footsteps of the veteran politician. Addressing the seminar, Thoughts of Muft Mehmood, religious scholars and political leaders lauded the services of Mufti Mehmood in the fields of politics and religion, and especially for his significant role in drafting the 1973 Constitution.Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who presided over the event, said that the crises faced by the country could only be resolved through justice and equality. He said that “we have to follow in the footsteps of Mufti Mehmood, who talked about the rule of justice and equality” By doing so, we shall be able to offset all sorts of crises”.“Our struggle is against those people loyal to the establishment and pro-establishment feudal lords,” The JUI-F chief asserted, adding that the rulers always talked about the poor but did nothing for them.Opposition Leader in the Senate and JUI-F Secretary General Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri said the law and order situation was deteriorating across the country due to the wrong policies of the ruling party.He came down hard on the PTI chief, and said that Imran Khan had been struck down with a Fazul Rehman phobia. He said that Imran Khan’s leading a march to South Waziristan against drone attacks and not uttering a word against the US was quite exceptionable, as he turned his guns towards JUI-F chief Fazlur Rehman.Paying tribute to late Mufti, Ghafoor Hyderi said Fazul Rehman had been following the legacy set by Mufti to enforce an Islamic government system that ensured the rights of religious minorities too.A senior leader of PPP, Prof ND Khan, also paid homage to late Mufti Mehmood, saying he played a major role in drawing up the 1973 Constitution.
