MULTAN
The Election Commission of Pakistan declared on Friday the official result of NA-149 Multan-11 by-election, declaring independent candidate Malik Aamir Dogar successful.
According to official result, Dogar got 52321 votes while his nearest rival Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, another independent candidate, came second with 38393 votes. Dogar won the election with a margin of 13928 votes, stated official result. PPPPs candidate Dr. Javed Siddiqui stood third with just 6326 votes. The winning candidate was backed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) while Hashmi enjoyed support from PML-N.
The by-poll was a low turnout election as the voting ratio stood at 29.37 per cent. A total of 100296 votes were cast out of which 680 were rejected and 99616 accepted.
The by-election to NA-149 Multan-II was conducted following the resignation of Makhdoom Javed Hashmi, who defected from PTI and resigned from National Assembly. The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) scheduled a re-election for October 16th. As many as 286 polling stations were set up in the constituency for 3,41,527 registered voters.
A total of 18 candidates were in the run and former MNA Sheikh Tahir Rasheed got 1440 votes, Boota Sarfaraz 19, Abdullah Mayo 24, Ch Tariq Zaman 222, Hakeem Sheikh Moen Uddin 20, Raja Muhammad Hussain Qureshi 16, Rashid Jamal 37, Rana Saleem Ahmad 12, Rana Faraz Noon 16, Fayyaz Khan 27, Anwar Khan Niazi 45, Rafiq Ahmad Khan 51, Shakil Butt 100, Latif Ansar Lajpal 273 and Malik Yousuf Bhatti 273.
