An English man told his cook to roast a chicken for dinner. When the chicken was brought to the table, the Sahib noticed that it had only one leg. The cook told him it was a one-legged chicken. The Sahib was surprised but kept quiet. The next morning the cook showed him a chicken standing on one leg. The Sahib threw a stick at the chicken and he ran away on two legs. The clever cook immediately told him that if he had thrown stick at the chicken last night, he would have had two legs of chicken in dinner. Moral of the story? Use the stick if you want things done. If our rulers had swung their stick well, there would have been no shortage of sugar, flour, electricity and POL. -Col (Rtd) R. M. AKHTAR, Lahore, September 17.
