LAHORE - The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Punjab distributed cheques to the affectees of Syed Sibt-ul-Hassan Gillani (Double Shah) at the Chamba House here on Thursday. Spokesman of the NAB informed that an amount of Rs 800 million was being distributed among 19,980 affectees of Double Shah (20 per cent of the verified claim to every affectee), and Rs 500 million among the affectees of Zahir Abbas Ghumman Group (40 per cent of the verified claim to each affectee). Two hundred affectees received their money back at the NAB Punjab office on Thursday, he further informed, adding that NAB Director General Maj (r) Shahnawaz Badar gave cheques to the affectees. These payments are being made as an interim relief to the affectees out of the money recovered through voluntary return (VR) and plea bargain (PB), the spokesman maintained. He said that the process of payment to the affectees would continue in future. The NAB Punjab has recovered Rs 2292.36 million from accused persons and their agents in Double Shah scam, and has already disbursed about Rs 700 million among the affectees. Further recoveries are in pipeline and remaining amount of claims will be disbursed after completion of verification of 46,364 claims. The Double Shah Scam is one of the biggest financial frauds in the history of Pakistan, which originated in Wazirabad, Gujranwala, Sarbrial and Sialkot region during 2005-07.
