LAHORE - A rickshaw driver shot dead his wife and a three-year-old daughter and later on committed suicide by shooting himself in the temple. The tragic incident in the Walled City just a few days before Eid is a result of poverty, police said on Thursday. According to details, 35-year-old Naveed, commonly known as Papu, killed his wife and daughter inside his rented house before committing suicide as the family was facing severe financial crisis for the last several months. The police investigators say the victims had been living in a rented house at Hakeem Saidi Wali near Bhhati Gate. Naveed had tied knot with Uzma some four years back. The couple often quarrelled over minor issues, as they could not meet the needs because of the limited income. On the day of incident, Uzma demanded her spouse (Naveed alias Papu) to give money for Eid shopping. As a result, Papu lost control and opened indiscriminate fire on his wife and also killed his sleeping baby. Soon after, he committed suicide as well. A police official of the Bhhati Gate Police Station said they received a phone call from the locals around 3pm about the incident, adding when they reached the spot two bodies had been found inside the room on the bed while the dead body of accused was lying at the floor. After hearing the gunshots, the neighbours rushed to the house and found the dead bodies in a pool of blood. They immediately informed the police. The dead bodies have been shifted to the City morgue for autopsy.
