KARACHI - Division bench of Sindh High Court comprising Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Mohammad Athar Saeed adjourned the hearing on the application filed by Syed Iqbal Kazmi declaring KESC responsible for Khori Garden incident. The bench remarked over the application that the inquiry tribunal has already been formed under District and Session Judge (South) Faheem Ahmed Siddiqui, so no department could be made responsible for such incident before coming out of any conclusion. The bench also asked the applicant to submit the evidence to the tribunal. Syed Iqbal Kazmi representative of Pakistan for Human Rights Commission South Asia (HRCSA) moved an application against KESC saying it is responsible for the death of 18 women and children in stampede during the distribution of free ration on Monday in Kohri Garden area. He pleaded to comprise his application to join with his pending petition No D886/07. He submitted that the incident occurred due to the failure of power supply in hot weather which created suffocation. The petitioner pointed out that according to Electric Act the concerned department could not stop supply of the electricity without informing the consumer. Meanwhile, District and Sessions Judge (South) Faheem Ahmed Siddiqui on Thursday visited the Khori Garden area where the sad incident of stampede took place a couple of days ago. As per details, on the direction of Sindh government the inquiry tribunal has started investigation over the incident of death of women and children in stampede during the distribution of free ration on Monday at Khori Garden. In this regard the head of the tribunal visited the area and recorded the statements of the philanthropist Chaudhry Haji Iftikhar and his cousin Abdul Aziz. Chaudhry Iftikhar submitted before the tribunal that he has been distributing free ration among the needy people of the area in the month of Ramadan for the last twenty five years, and such sad incident never happened since then. He said the cause of the incident was scuffling among the women for the ration tokens, adding that he will pay the compensations to the families of the victims after Eid. He stated that form next year he will distribute ration with the help of the concerned government department. Later, he asked for the permission of distributing more ration as he still has enough stock, vowing that he will do it carefully this time.
