Man ends life after killing 3 sons, wife

KARACHI - A dejected man committed suicide after strangulating his wife and three sons here at Majeed Colony in Landhi area, in the remit of Quaidabad Police on Friday. The gruesome incident unfolded in House No-31/72 Sector-2 Majeed Colony when worker of a local garments factory, 29-year-old Atif, son of Nasir came to his house and closed the doors while his wife and three minor children were asleep. First he strangled his three sons namely five-year-old Waqas, three-year-old Mohsin and one and half-year-old Yaseen and then his wife 23-year-old Bakht Bibi. Later he ended his life by hanging himself by the ceiling fan with a rope, SP Nasir Aftab told the press. The man had written a letter before committing the horrible crime, the SP said. He said that Atif was working in a garment factory in Landhi processing zone against a monthly salary of around Rs5,000. He had to pay Rs3000 rent for the house while his two children also studied at a local school in the area, SP Nasir said. He maintained that he was not satisfied with his life and had tried several times to find a better job but to no avail. The police officer said that the victims younger brother Tahir who also lived in the same house along with his mother, informed the police about the incident. In his letter Atif wrote, I Atif, son of Nasir is killing my children and wife due to poverty as I unable to bear the expenses of my whole family. I apologise to my mother and if possible please forgive me, Allah Hafiz. SHO Irfan Meo said that at the time of incident the deceaseds mother and younger brother were not at home. He said that when his younger brother reached home he found the door of Atifs room locked from inside. At which Tahir, with help of the neighbours, dismantled the exhaust fan and entered the room where he found his brothers body hanging while other bodies were lying on the floor in the room. The police took the bodies to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal formalities. Talking to The Nation, Nadeem Khan, a resident of Majeed Colony, said that the deceased Nasir was much distressed due to his meagre salary as he always found it hard to make both ends meet. He always told me about his inability to maintain his daily life in the face of skyrocketing inflation, he recalled and added that On Eid he told me that his children were very unfortunate as they did not have new clothes while he was unable to give them better food and future.
