The havoc of floods has also obliterated the natural as well as man-made land markings that demarcated land holdings in our rural areas. During the resettlement phase when the affectees return back home to reconstruct their houses and take charge of their agricultural fields, there is bound to be a lot of confusion which might even lead to some really ugly law and order situations. It is, therefore, imperative that government should start saving images of terrain of the affected areas through Google Maps on internet. That, may I point out, is still displaying the pre-flood images. Google mapping technology not only gives extremely clear images of the land but even facilitates measure of distances and individual perimeters of any given area to an amazing accuracy. Is there someone in government even thinking of that? COL. (Rtd) RIAZ JAFRI, Rawalpindi, September 15.
