New province to end sense of deprivation: PM

MUZAFFARGARH/NAWABSHAH - Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Saturday assured the people of Southern Punjab of a new province, saying it would end their sense of deprivation. Addressing a public rally here after performing ground-breaking ceremony of a multi-million housing project donated by Turkish government for flood-affectees, Gilani said people would reject those who were against the creation of a new province. Gilani assured the gathering of a new province, saying the new province would be a guarantee to their rights. He reiterated that the demand for a new province would be part of their manifesto. The Prime Minister delivered his address in Seraiki language and said it was due to demand of the native people who were desirous of getting a separate province. Gilani also paid rich tributes to the people of Muzaffargarh who were staunch supporters of Pakistan Peoples Party and had rendered numerous sacrifices. He said the party drew its strength from the people and would do everything to bring all facilities of life at their doorsteps. People of Muzaffargarh would be provided facilities of motorway, modern airport and by-passes which would usher in a revolution in the area, he added. He said an installation of PARCO refinery would be set up in the vicinity which would generate employment in the area. Gilani said the government was elected for five years and assured the people that it would made all-out its efforts to provide facilities to the people during rest of its tenure. Gilani said 4,620 houses would be constructed in Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur and Fazilpur. He said other ancillary facilities like schools, mosques, health centres would also be constructed. Gilani lauded the Turkish assistance to Pakistan in the massive reconstruction effort, saying its leadership was following the Sunnah of Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) by helping those who were in need. He recalled the visits of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his wife last year, and handing over of newly constructed houses to the homeless affected by the devastating floods. The Prime Minister said he decided to stay with the people of his country who were in dire need of assistance and directed Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar to lead the Pakistani delegation to New York to address the 66th session of the United Nations General Assembly in his stead. Gilani also paid rich tributes to the people of Pakistan who have braved all odds and stood up to face the challenge with courage and determination. He said the nation was confronting extremism, terrorism and natural calamities and was hopeful that it would also successfully manage to pass through the current phase of heavy flooding. He urged the people of Pakistan to reach out to help their brethren who were homeless and do as much as possible so that they may be rehabilitated without any delay. The event was also attended by Turkish ambassador to Pakistan. Agencies add: During his address in Muzaffargarh, the Prime Minister said those who borrowed helicopters from the government and visited the city, they were ones who were complaining about the government. Gilani said the efforts of these people would be futile because Muzaffargarh was like Larkana. Meanwhile, Turkish people have raised funds to help their flood-hit Pakistani brethren and a sum of US $138 million would be spent to construct 4,620 homes in flood-hit parts of the country in South Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan. This was stated by officials in a briefing to Prime Minister Gilani after the latter formally opened construction work of New Muzaffargarh City project and similar initiatives for Jampur and Fazalpur areas of district Rajanpur. The three projects are part of the Turkish humanitarian initiative for Pakistani flood-hit people. Later, Prime Minister Gilani reached Nawabshah to visit the flood-ravaged areas. He directed the provincial authorities to accelerate provision of food, shelter and medical facilities to flood victims in Sindh. He was addressing the flood-affected people at their camps that also included a free medical makeshift facility by Pakistan Air Force. The Prime Minister took round of the camps and reviewed the arrangements to facilitate the victims. Gilani directed the Sindh Chief Minister to ensure provision of edibles to the affected people and vowed that the government would continue providing them financial assistance till their rehabilitation. The Prime Minister asked the authorities to send medical teams, including lady doctors to the camps for the treatment of women patients. Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah and Governor Punjab Latif Khosa accompanied the Prime Minister.
