PESHAWAR (Agencies) - The death toll from a suicide bombing that targeted members of an anti-Taliban militia attending funeral prayers in Lower Dir has risen to 48, police said Saturday. The bomber blew himself up Thursday in the middle of mourners as they gathered for prayers on open ground in Jandol town in Lower Dir. The death toll in the attack has now risen to 48 after six more people died of their wounds in different hospitals, said Distract Coordination Officer Muhammad Saleem Marwat. Fifty-two people were still being treated for injuries in hospital while six were in critical condition. There was no claim of responsibility for Thursdays attack. The DCO said identity of 10 more victims of the blast was confirmed who were later on shifted to their ancestral areas for burial. The situation in the area remained tense and most of the business centres were closed on the third day of the blast. The local administration has submitted the initial report of the blast to the provincial government, confirming the explosion as a suicide blast.
