OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE The Punjab Government on Saturday closed down two collection centres of Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital set up near Mayo Hospital and Jinnah Hospitals, respectively, apparently for charging extra fee from dengue patients. The Government has asked the private laboratories to charge Rs 90 for dengue tests but interestingly on the same day closed down the Shaukat Khanum Memoriasl Cancer Hospital collection centres on the charges of receiving extra fee. The SKMCH?spokesman, Kh Nazir said the institution had already reduced fee and decided to open all collection centres round the clock to facilitate dengue patients. He said that the institution fixed the fee at Rs 90 despite receiving no written directions from the government. He said that the government has closed down two collection centres without any warning and reasons. He said that closure of collection centres would not only reduce revenue collection of the institution but would also increase hardships of cancer patients. Meanwhile, the City District Government on Saturday sealed over 40 laboratories in various parts of the City for charging extra fee for Dengue tests. These laboratories were receiving Rs 250 to Rs 300 in sheer violation of the government directions of charging Rs 90 for Dengue tests. Special Branch had already submitted a report to the Punjab Government carrying details of laboratories minting money by benefitting from the prevailing Dengue crises. The CDG has also sealed a number of medical stores involved in selling of Panadol at exorbitant rates.
